Business, project management and education are what is done these days. The economy is dictating a lean staff and rapid delivery, expertise is required to make that happen. Budgets and timelines define the project success and managing the risk makes that a little easier to swallow. The individual behind the curtain, trusted to make that happen, has to understand all these things and more.
Servers and code have been my life for years, with focus on server and UI performance, usability, and user experience. Don’t call me a designer, outside of my woodshop that is, I integrate and make the UIs work with the backend technology, be it PHP and WordPress or Ruby with Ruby on Rails. I am a developer and probably one of the most agnostic you’ll ever meet. I have a fantastic ability to discuss the tech with the artist, and visa versa. Then bring that knowledge to the client clearly and confidently.
Fifteen years of computer work in and out of offices have taught me a lot but most importantly, have an opinion and be clear on what works. Always be open to the possibility you are not the only one knows this and you just might be wrong. The web’s future is always evolving and moving about, what I know now is this: The web is social and it wants to know where you are at cause if you are in one place too long, you just got left behind.
